First of all it took forever to get going. The thriller part doesn't even begin until halfway through the book. It gets interesting for awhile and then boom...it just over. Really unsatisfying ending. If this was a movie I'd say wait until it shows up on cable. I gave it two stars because it had potential otherwise I would have given one star.

The Last Cruise A Novel Kate Christensen 9780385536288 Books Reviews
The ending of this book completely rips off the end of the movie "Perfect Storm" and the characters are so unsympathetic its hard to care that they all go down with the ship.
Novel felt long ke all introduction. Not much internal character motivation.
Ending was the worst I have ever read.
I bought this based on a review in the WSJ, which is usually reliable. It was a big disappointment. It takes a long time to get started and the author spends a lot of time demonstrating she knows how to cook (and carve meat) and how cruise ships operate. But, the plot of a crew revolt (and is silly - I can't figure out if the author actually believes these are real issues on modern cruise ships) goes nowhere and eventually peters out. The mechanical disaster that occurs is not credible, and leaving the ship without help for days is very unlikely. The author can't figure out a reasonable ending to the disasters and leaves everything hanging. I finished it, but was left very disappointed.
What starts out in an ostensibly classy time warp full of pretension and portent ends in a classic, timeless tale of love, both unrequited and new - soul searching and survival of lives both left behind and newly embarked. I couldn’t put it down..still unsure if it left me feeling content and safe as a witness or wishing to be unmoored to the endless possibilities of its protagonists.
Dissaponted... simply unfinished...needs to develop the ending...if the idea is to sell the next book...I'm not buying it ...I enjoyed it until the dropped ending
I have been on many cruises and have always noticed the smiling, cheerful crew members. I was hoping to learn more about these people's conditions below deck. I have heard that they are pretty dismal and would have liked more description of the living quarters and treatment of the crew members that serve as cabin stewards and waiters. The ending leaves the reader hanging (almost literally) and that was disappointing to me.
The book took absolutely FOREVER to get going...and it continued to be boring until the second half when it got more interesting. The Jewish musicians was so worthless and should have been left out...and the ending was apparently two chapters after the book ended. I can't think of any book I ever read is 72 years that had a more worthless and totally incomplete final chapter. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY on this one...they couldn't possibly make it into a movie...it would be too dumb.
